Karratha Senior High School (KSHS) is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, passionate and committed Science Teacher. The successful applicant needs to have demonstrated experience in teaching all academic levels and if possible experience in teaching Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Human Biology or equivalent.
The successful applicant will be given the opportunity to work across Years 7 to 12 and bring their expertise to the Learning Area, applying their knowledge of the Science Courses. To be suitable for this role, the applicant must be student and relationship focused, highly motivated, innovative, possess sound interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and able to work cooperatively in a Learning Area team. Sound classroom management, the ability to develop rapport and motivate students, differentiate curriculum to cater for individual student needs and to practise a range of teaching strategies are vital for this position. Specialist skills in ATAR Human biology would be desirable.
Karratha SHS has a focus on academic improvement for all students. Karratha SHS teachers are expected to actively take part in Classroom Observation practices, explicitly use an Instructional Model (Visible Learning) in the planning and delivery of lessons, embed literacy and numeracy into all areas of teaching, and utilise data analysis in their planning and case management of students.
Karratha SHS has a population of approximately 1200 students and is situated on a state of the art campus which was completed in 2013. Students at Karratha SHS come from all contributory primary schools as well as those from across Australia. Many families move to Karratha and surrounding townships such as Dampier, Point Samson, Roebourne and Wickham to work in the diverse mining, tourism and retail industries in the region.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
